Despite your best efforts, you have contracted a cold or flu. It’s unfortunate, but it does happen to even those who take the most precautions in keeping themselves healthy and in avoiding germs and viruses. Now, however, you need to take some necessary steps to rid yourself of the cold or flu and get yourself back to being fully healthy again as quickly as possible.
To get yourself back to 100% health as quickly as possible, you should take some time to be alone with yourself. That way, not only can you concentrate on getting well again, but you can also keep from spreading the germs and/or virus to other people. You should also be aware if your symptoms, such as a running nose and congestion, suddenly flare up into more severe symptoms, such as an extreme fever and difficulty breathing. If this occurs over a short time period, you should contact your doctor right away, as your cold may have turned into influenza.
You need to make sure that you keep yourself hydrated. When you are running a fever or vomiting, you will use more fluids than you would if you were healthy. Therefore, you need to drink as much as possible, even more so than usual (which is a recommended 8-10 8-ounces glasses of water per day). If you are unable to keep liquids down, you need to contact your physician right away, as you definitely need liquids in order to be strong enough to fight off the infection.
One other thing you should do is to dispose of all tissues that you have used. Now is not the time to save them or reuse them. Saving or reusing them will only lengthen the time it takes to get rid of the cold.
Despite one’s best efforts, you’ll likely deal with a cold or flu at some point. If this occurs, there are steps you can to take to shorten the time it takes to get back to being fully healthy. This includes staying hydrated while running a fever, being aware if your symptoms become worse over a short period of time, spending time alone by yourself to concentrate on getting well and avoiding spreading the germs, and getting rid of all used tissues to ensure you don’t lengthen the time of the cold. By following the advice above, you’ll be able to overcome your cold as quickly and as painlessly as possible so you can return to 100% health.
