Diets Suck

Dr. Fabio Moro
I hate diets.

Even more, I hate it when people say, "this isn't a diet, because diets don't work." So cliche'.

If you want my diet, it's the Grandmother diet: whole, real foods from the earth, balanced, an awareness of calories and appropriate meal timing. That's what we teach.

I just made up that name: 'Grandmother Diet'. Hmm, what do you think?

But a research study recently studied four diets in 300 women: Atkins: less than 20 grams carbs first 2-3 months and only 50 grams/day later. Learn Diet: limited calories, 30% fat, more exercise Ornish: 10% fat, super low calories Zone: limited calories, 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat.

After one year, Atkins dieters lost 10 pounds, Learn dieters lost 6 pounds, Ornish 5 pounds and Zone 4 pounds. Triglycerides and blodd pressure dropped the most in Atkins dieters, probably because they simply lost the most weight. HDL ("good") cholesterol went up most in Atkins dieters and they lost the most weight. HDL went up least in the Ornish dieters. LDL ("bad") cholesterol didn't change significantly in any group.
What To Do:

The take home message is that reducing calories to a certain point, work across the different "diets". But be balanced. No super low fat and no super high protein/low carb. The above "diet" in the Introduction section is obviously effective.

Oh yeah, and EXERCISE consistenly!
